Red Racer

I like to wear things that make me feel like I’m going fast. For example, I have a pair of metallic silver tennis shoes I call the Speed Cats, and I wear when I’ve got lots to accomplish. These pants go in that category. Maybe it’s that they’re red, or maybe it’s the smart racing stripe down the side. As soon as I put them on, I feel like sprinting out of my apartment, all the way down the street and into my office to kick some major design butt. HighYAH!

Lady Golfer

Do I golf? Not really. But the adorable tassels on these suede golf shoes were calling my name. I found this button-down shirt at the DUMBO Parents’ Association stoop sale right before hitting the road in June. It had a tiny rip in the sleeve that’s completely undetectable in the business of flowers and clouds now that I’ve patched it. I ended up wearing this shirt constantly on my June travels because California was way colder than I expected and Mississippi was chronically over air-conditioned. I love this ensemble so much that I wore it (minus the golf shoes because I couldn’t get the cleats off in time) to my very first AIGA New York board meeting!

Dress Your Pirate in Stars and Stripes

Everyone who knows me knows I’ll use any excuse to dress in a theme, so who’s surprised that I dressed myself like a flag for Independence Day? Ummm, no one. My starry skirt came from a trip to a thrift shop in Columbus, Mississippi. It was originally a floor-length affair until I gathered it like Fourth of July bunting and pinned it in place using two pairs of old-lady-looking earrings. The “look” is completed by a pair of leg warmers that I cut from a striped t-shirt and a red white and blue goblet that I can only imagine had some kind of crazy past life. Maybe it was the bandana plus all the stripes, but I somehow ended up looking like a patriotic pirate. Perfect for playing Rock Band and drinking “Beergaritas” with a my studiomates at Skylar and Josh’s awesome party!
